Individual Consultations

    Conducted around 37 weeks gestation

If breastfeeding is important to you - listen up. Many mums report the one thing they wish they learned about more before baby came was… you guessed it!

My antenatal breastfeeding education session is designed to set you up for the best possible start, with a focus on realistic, evidence-based support.

In many cases, breastfeeding education within the hospital system is minimal - often covering only the absolute basics and leaving out a lot. Maternity wards are understaffed and busy - breastfeeding is often not prioritised. We explore knowledge you might not have considered and how to actively protect it in the crucial hours after birth.

You’ll walk away with increased knowledge, confidence, and clarity around your options and decisions. You’ll receive practical resources and a breastfeeding plan to give to your birth provider (kind of like a birth plan, but for breastfeeding!).

My lactation education is informed by my clinical experience + extensive lactation study + lived experience - having breastfed my own children (including both exclusive breastfeeding and exclusive pumping) so I understand the nuances of what this journey may look like.

Specific support for baby sleep problems, feeding & lactation issues, excessive crying, unsettled behaviour, and maternal and infant health & wellbeing.

Caring for an unsettled baby, or a baby who never sleeps, can feel depleting, and all-consuming.

Through an NDC-aligned approach, we work to help you understand your baby’s unique sensory and developmental needs and get to the root of the issue. Care is responsive, holistic, and grounded in the latest biological and neurological infant research and development. NDC care means we don’t automatically pathologise infant behaviours, and avoid unecessary intervention.

This doesn’t mean you’re left to “just cope.” We acknowledge the huge transition that is matrescence so you feel empowered instead of lost. We’ll discuss NDC’s 5 domain approach for infant care and work together to optimise your situation, finding respectful, workable solutions, in ways that feel sustainable - whilst also screening for genuine medical concerns when needed.

For breastfeeding challenges, timely support matters! And issues can rarely wait. Receive skilled lactation Including support. Common issues include mastitis, nipple pain, latch & positioning, weight gain & supply concerns, fussiness at the breast or bottle, oversupply.

Maybe you want to avoid common early challenges, want this experience to go better than your last, or to give yourself the best chance to reach your breastfeeding goals. One of the top two reasons mothers cease breastfeeding earlier than they wanted, is a lack of support. These packages are designed to provide ongoing & proactive support, to empower & educate, ensuring you have professional guidance during the most vulnerable first weeks and months. Working together will significantly increase your chances of breastfeeding success.

My lactation education combines additional formal training above standard training, clinical experience, regular continuing professional development and lived experience as a breastfeeding mother of two. Alongside supporting families in clinical settings, I have upskilled with Dr Pamela Douglas’ (IBCLC) Clinical Breastfeeding Support courses and trained with Midwife Amberley Harris as a 662 Certified Professional. The approach is holistic, preventative, focused on optimising breastfeeding pairs and avoiding unnecessary diagnoses or ineffective treatments. Get in touch for more detail and pricing.

  • 4 face to face appointments from 37 weeks til 4 weeks postpartum + on-call messaging support for 6 weeks.

  • 6 face to face appointments from 37 weeks til 6 weeks postpartum + 2 digital or face to face appointments at 3 and 5 months + on-call messaging support for 6 months.

A postpartum package means I can support you with the range of infant care (lactation & feeding, sleep, unsettled or cry-fuss behaviour, and Mum & baby’s health and wellbeing) over the duration of the package.

Additionally, I’m there to provide in-home practical support to help you reduce the mental load, feel lighter, and cared for.

Families with limited support in Townsville benefit from packages (like Defence families - being ex-defence, I get it). You’ll feel nurtured with my special touches too. Choose the level that feels right for you. Get in touch for more detail and pricing.

What do I help with?

  • Realistic guidance grounded in neuroscience and infant development. We acknowledge human infant's dependence on adults and the biological sleep needs. Common issues include frequent night waking, day sleep challenges, settling difficulties, protecting breastfeeding whilst managing night sleep and safe co-sleeping information if you’d like.

  • Including deep breastfeeding clinical support, expressing, and formula. Common issues include mastitis, nipple pain, latch & positioning, weight gain & supply concerns, fussiness at the breast or bottle, oversupply. Antenatal education session available.

  • Investigative approach into baby’s cues and behaviour using the NDC framework. Frequent crying and an overall unsettled baby is stressful. Let’s get to the root and understand your baby’s sensory nourishment needs.

  • Acceptance and commitment therapy principles - a space to be heard and helpful cognitive interventions.

  • Considerations in the postpartum context.
